Travelers Lounge: New Zealand edition. A playlist for the road, tracks, sea and sky.

There are few trips in life that will change how you perceive the world, that would leave you humbled and breathless, grateful and amazed at how the universe aligned the earth and all its stars to be exactly where it is, so that you can be exactly where you are at that very moment.

New Zealand was that moment in time for me.

I’ve never been much of a nature lover. The most time I’ve spent appreciating any flora and fauna was when I stopped to take a closer look at a peculiar flower, only to discover it to be the the remnants of someones blue chewing gum. But lo behold, the gorgeous south Island of New Zealand moved me to tears.

I discovered a world of absolute purity, of lush beauty, of how God must have intended earth to be, from whence once was. And while discovering Middle Earth through the open roads, hypnotic train rides and choppy sea, I soaked in every moment of its encompassing untainted beauty.

It made me realize the reality of my mortality, that one day I will be gone and all this beauty will live on, continuing to enchant the next person who once mistook a chewing gum for a floret. I wanted to bubble wrap the island and hide it in a closet as big as Narnia for the unborn children of the future.

And so I curated a playlist on my iPhone during the trip, inspired by the speckled sea views and glacier blue rivers, the majestic mountains and rickety train tracks. I’d like to share my playlist with you, in hope that whoever you are, where ever you go in your travels, you’ll bring a part of me with you. So that in some existential way, we can share our moments together. Let this be the soundtrack for all your journeys. Enjoy!

Great blog; I like your format, style, pics, etc.

I spent time on the South Island in January. Inspirational is an understatement. My wife and I finalized a leave of absence from each of our jobs, and will be traveling for 4 months beginning in Sept – in part because of how incredible NZ was.

    1. Gee thanks Mike! 4 months is a great stretch of time to travel! Here’s wishing you and your wife a safe and pleasant trip. Thanks for popping by and taking the time to say hi 🙂
